FreeWebs respects the intellectual property rights of others and we would be pleased to take action pursuant to the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") and/or FreeWebs established polices and procedures to assist you in the protection of the intellectual property rights held by you or your client.

However, your recent correspondence was insufficient to constitute an effective Notification of Infringement ("NOI") within the meaning of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") and/or as required by FreeWebs policy. The elements required for an effective NOI, and the contact information for submitting a NOI to FreeWebs, are set forth below.

Please be aware that you may submit a NOI in response to this e-mail. To be effective within the meaning of the DMCA, a NOI must contain substantially the following:

1. A description of the copyrighted work or other intellectual property
that you claim has been infringed;

2. A description of the location where the material that you claim is infringing is located;

3. A statement by you that you have a good faith belief that the reported use is not authorized by the copyright or intellectual property owner, its agent, or the law;

4. Your address, telephone number, and, if available, e-mail address;

5. A statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information is accurate and that you are the copyright or intellectual property owner or authorized to act on the copyright or intellectual property owner's behalf; and

6. An electronic or physical signature by the person making the submission (i.e., you or such other person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright holder). If the submission is made electronically, to satisfy the signature requirement please designate the electronic signature by typing a forward slash before and after the name of the authorized person making the submission (e.g., /Jane Doe/) and follow this electronic signature with the typed name of the person. For example:

This format is intended to represent a signature and typed name as is customarily found within the signature block of business correspondence transmitted in hard copy.

You probably have noticed lately that SERP's have been acting strange and sites that used to rank high for certain keywords are nowhere to be found and have been replaced with authority sites.

It's what's called Google shuffle, meaning Google is updating its algorithms. As a result, many pages will be moved down in the search results and some will completely disappear. Unless you have a well-established site, you need to protect your ranking (and your income respectively) by securing your positions on the first page of Google.

First of all, if your site or blog is brand new when such algorithm shift occurs and you have noticed a sudden dip in organic traffic, check to see if your blog is still indexed. Supplemental index gets dumped during such algorithm changes. If you fall off the search engine, re-submit your site to all major search engines.

Another important tip is to always submit articles to major article directories. Five to ten directories is more than plenty. I've seen people sell software that supposedly submits to hundreds of directories. If you ever wondered why your once popular post suddenly stops getting hits, first thing to check it Google Webmaster Tools. If you don’t use it, get it now. Here is how you install it:

Go to Google – My Account – Webmaster Tools

On the dashboard where you see “add a site” you will need to insert your blog URL and hit the button “Add Site” after which you will be asked to verify the ownership of your blog which you can easily do by adding a piece of code to your blog HTML. Just follow instructions.

Next, wait till Google bot crawls your blog and check for errors. If this is the first time you are submitting you will have to wait several hours. However, chances are your blog is already included in Google index and you can check your stats right away.

In this case what you are looking for is URL’s restricted by robots.txt or URL’s not found. If you see any URL’s restricted by robots.txt, click on the link that shows as restricted. Unless you set robots.txt yourself, there should not be any restricted URL’s. To find restricted URL’s type in your browser your blog URL/robots.txt and you will see everything that is disallowed/restricted. Here is what you will see:

You may not see restricted URL’s here. (Note that in blogger you can’t change robots.txt manually).

To find the problem with a particular URL where you suspect stolen content, go to the url in your webmaster tools that shows as restricted. Next, copy the first sentence in that post and insert the whole sentence in Google search with quotations just like this “the first sentence goes here” and hit search button. If someone has stolen your content, you will see their exact URL.

Chances are, your own URL will not be shown in the search. Don’t panic. Here is how you fix it:

Republish your post by simply going to “edit post” and “publish post”. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days for your URL to appear in the search depending on how often Google normally crawls your site which is determined by the frequency of your posts. Next, chances are the webmaster who stole your content is using it to redirect to some spam site. What you do is, go back to your webmaster tools and click on “report spam in our index”. Follow the instructions to report the site that stole your content. Check everything that applies (deceptive redirects, doorway pages, cloaked pages – those are pages that install cookies, etc.). In the box provided for additional info you may want to note that content was stolen and shows up in search results instead of the original URL.

Google staff will typically review your inquiry within a couple of days and remove the deceptive URL from the index. Don’t expect to hear from them, just re-check in a couple of days and it should be fixed.
